GIFs come to Trillian for Linux
June 4, 2026 • By the Trillian Team

The chat window on Linux has a GIF button now. This update lets you send GIFs, and the ones other people share play right in the conversation.

Or type /gif

Click the GIF button in the chat window and pick one. If your hands are already on the keyboard, type /gif and what you're after, /gif happy dance for instance, to send one without reaching for the mouse.

See where it came from

When someone shares a GIF with you, it plays in the chat with the Tenor or KLIPY logo in the corner, so you can see where it came from.

Eleven fixes

Trillian installs cleanly on Ubuntu 26.04 and Debian trixie, and your accent color survives a restart. Flagged conversations show a red flag badge, animated PNGs animate, and scrolling back through history no longer duplicates messages. On HiDPI displays, the status, mute, flag, and read-receipt icons are sharp.

Update, then send somebody a GIF.
